We need your support
Here are some ways you can support legal representation for young people experiencing homelessness in the Atlanta area. Please complete this form to sign up for opportunities.
Attorneys
We are looking for attorneys who are passionate about serving young people, believe that legal representation includes ensuring young people stay stably housed, and have skills in civil law. These are some of the legal topics young people most commonly need assistance with:
Gender marker and name changes
Public benefits
Landlord/tenant issues
Evictions
Immigration
Court fees and fines
Emancipation
Education
Expungement
Consumer and medical debt
Identity theft
Law Students
We are looking for law students who are excited about building their skills in serving un/der-represented and under-resourced populations. Volunteering with SLCY can count toward pro-bono hours if you're participating in our drop-in clinics. We also have opportunities to support us with the smooth running of our clinics and events, and general logistics of running a legal aid non-profit.
Advisory Board Members
Advisory Board members provide input into the strategic direction of Southern Legal Center for Youth, its programs, and they help us grow our network across Atlanta, Georgia, and the South.
We are looking for community members who hold specialty expertise, especially including (but not limited to):
Young people with lived experience of homelessness and intersecting systems such as: criminal legal, child welfare/foster care, and behavioral health.
Attorneys passionate about serving children and young people
Youth and young adult homeless service providers
